How do I fix link colors?

Hi Janine,

I wonder if you could help me with the following: I’m new to building Web sites (I started 3 days ago!) and the problem I have is small but annoying. When defining rules for links, I am able to change the “hover” color but not the link color. When previewed in IExplorer, the link color insists on being purple when I’ve defined it as blue. Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong?

Hope to hear from you.
Regards,
Justin

Hi, Justin,

I’m guessing you’re seeing the visited link color in IE because you’ve already “visited” those links.

There are four color settings for links and you need to change all four. And keep in mind that you can use the same color for both active and visited links if you don’t want the color to appear to change after someone has visited the page.

On my website, you’ll find a tutorial on how to use CSS to create styles for links formatted in an Unordered List, which is a popular way to create navigation bars. Here’s a tutorial on how to style a navigation bar of links with CSS. In this tutorial, you’ll learn about how to define styles for each of the four link states.

Best regards,
Janine

    Hello Janine

I am working my way through your book DreamWeaver CC for Dummies and noticed the same problem. I suspect you are correct in the color is the Visited color. The question is … when are you not Visited anymore? I have restarted the browser completely and it continues to display the Visited color before I ever click on the link to go Visit. It does display the Hover color appropriately.

I had a somewhat similar problem a while back when I was first experimenting with putting things up on a remote site. I’d make changes that worked locally, but could not get them to work on the remote site, even after doing the sync and putting the changes on the remote. It occurred to me that maybe Internet Explorer was caching the page locally, and just grabbing that local copy, even when I tried to run from the remote site. I restarted the browser and sure enough then I saw my changes when I visited the remote site. Restarting the browser is not fixing this problem however, and neither did restarting the PC.

I noticed when I look at the links on DreamWeaver with LIVE view, it is just the opposite. I see the Link color or Hover color but never the Visited color. LOL I don’t have enough hair left to go pulling any out. LOL If you have any further suggestions (2013-11 vs 2012-08 when this post went made) as to what’s going on I’d appreciate it. There is obviously still a hole in my understanding of CSS, DreamWeaver, the environment, or ALL, and I don’t like it! 🙁

    Thanks
    Gary
