JellyfishJellyfish Aquariums

Creating a viable Jellyfish aquarium requires careful attention to achieve the perfect balance of salinity and water circulation.

Unable to swim independently, Jellyfish must rely on the currents to move around in their environment, requiring a specialized circulation system.  A typical aquarium system is designed to filter out suspended particles.  Since jellies are suspended in the water column they would quickly be 'filtered out' of a regular aquarium.

Scientists designed a special type of tank called a Kreisel to allow the study and display of these delicate animals.  The unique way in which water enters and leaves a kreisel allows the jelly to stay in suspension and on display.
