Whether you want to create your own web site, or you want us to take care of everything for you, we love helping people tell their stories online.

Throughout this site, you'll find free illustrated tutorials, as well as books and videos about how to create web sites and blogs. (Get started with this article on planning a web site.)

In this section, you find a portfolio with highlights of some of the web sites we've created for clients and friends.

How We Work

We create web sites and we redesign existing sites to be more effective, modern, search engine friendly, and easy to update.

Some of our clients, such as busy actor Michael York, prefer to keep things simple and let us do everything for them. Other clients want interactive sites they can update themselves.

The first thing we do is assess what features will best serve your needs, and how we can help you achieve your goals. Then we put together a team with the skills needed for your site.

Digital Alchemy

I'm Janine Warner, creator of DigitalFamily.com. I take the lead on most of the web projects around hereand I like to call myself a Digital Alchemist because I love the way it combines the old and new (it's my favorite "made up title").

Our magic comes from blending professional project management with a team of specialists for each web site and then staying as up to date as possible on the latest trends and standards.

What We Do

From multimedia portfolios to highly customized blogs to online ecommerce, we provide strategic consulting and web design services.

Because we teach web design, we can also show you (or your staff) how to update your site, which gives you more control and saves you update fees for years to come.

We value long-term relationships with clients, but we'll never 'hold you hostage.' We like to keep clients well informed and we encourage you to get as involved in developing and maintaining your own web site as your schedule and skills allow.

How to Reach Us

Just email a note about what you want to do with your web site to Janine@DigitalFamily.com.

I'm happy to arrange an initial review phone call to see if we're the right fit for your web project.

Please note that I answer my own email and phone calls and sometimes take a day or two to get back to people.

If you haven't heard from me in longer than that, ping me again via email -- sometimes my spam filter gets greedy.

How much does a Web site cost?

I completely understand why you want to know what your web site will cost, but it's really hard to answer that question before we put together a basic project plan and define the scope of what you need.

In our initial review, I can help you choose the technology that's best for you (blog, web site, ecommerce package) and help you sort through the options so you make the best investment.

I can usually give you a general idea of the budget for a project during an initial review call, but we offer a wide range of services with different rates and it can take time to put together a detailed estimate.

It's an overused metaphor, but building a web site is a lot like building a house, the cost varies depending on your taste and budget. Do you want a marble staircase to the master suite or a ladder to the loft?

Once we understand what you want, we can assemble a team of programmers, writers, designers, and multimedia specialists, and put together a proposal and budget. This initial review sometimes takes us a fair amount of time, but we've found it's worth making sure we start out on the right foot, and we'll never charge you until you agree we're the right match and you've signed a simple letter of agreement.

Developing a Web Site for You

We like to begin with a consultation to better understand what kinds of things you want to do, sell, or create on your site, and what you already have ready.

I like to do this initial review by phone, web conference, or over coffee if you're in the neighborhood. (We're based in California, but we work with clients all over the country.)

Once we understand the scope of your project and your goals, we'll put together a proposal outlining what we can do for you and what kind of budget it will require.

Just drop an email to Janine@DigitalFamily.com with a description of what you're looking for, and we'll get started.

If you have a limited budget and want to create your own web site, we can help with that, too. If you want us to creat your site and then teach you to update it, we think that's a great approach. If you need someone to come in and assess how your small business is designing and managing your web site, we can start with a strategic assessment.

We've been teaching Web design and designing web sites for more than 15 years now (wait, since before the last century ended, really? Wow.)
