Text version of the Quiz: Test Your Dreamweaver IQ

The latest version of Dreamweaver is:

  1. CS4
  2. CS3
  3. 8
  4. MX 2004
  5. You mean there is more than one version?

Answer: Dreamweaver Cs4, released in 2008

Dreamweaver is sold by what software company:

  1. Macromedia
  2. Adobe
  3. No company made it. It descended from Nirvana, borne on the backs of fluttering angels and singing cherubs.

Answer: Adobe bought Dreamweaver from Macromedia and includes this Web design program in a suite of design tools, including Photoshop and Flash. No cherubs were harmed during the coding process. They were, however, fed Jolt Cola and pizza.

You can use Dreamweaver to create:

Answer: All of the above. You can create HTML pages, styles sheets, and almost any other web format in use today or under development in alternate dimensions.

HTML tags are surrounded by:

  1. brackets <>
  2. parenthesise ()
  3. quote marks ""
  4. hyphens -
  5. The police, who yell "Come out with your hands up!" over bullhorns.

Answer: HTML tags are surround by <brackets> and include open and close tags, distinguished with a forward slash. For example, the Heading 1 tag is used to format a headline like this: <h1>Dreamweaver designer surrenders after stand-off</h1>

You can create images for the Web in these formats (check all that apply):

  1. JPEG
  2. GIF
  3. PNG
  4. Flickr
  5. TIFF

Answer: JPEG, GIF, and PNG are all great Web formats, but Tiff files are better suited to print. Flickr is a good website to share your photos.

When you save files in a Web site:

  1. they do not earn compound interest, daily
  2. you shouldn't use spaces in the filename
  3. it's best to avoid special characters, such as $, &, or !
  4. using dashes- and underscores_ to separate words is okay

Answer: All of the above. Good filenames are short_and_sweet. (Names can end in .html or .htm) And frugality is its own reward.

The first page of a web site should be named:

  1. index
  2. home
  3. default
  4. whatever I want to name it
  5. something cool, so the other web sites won't make fun of it on the playground

Answer: This depends on the web server you use to host your site, but most servers are set up to recognize index.html as the first page of a site. Microsoft servers are often set up for default.html. You can name the rest of the files in your site almost_whatever_you_want...

The </h1> is an opening tag.

  1. True
  2. False
  3. What's a tag?
  4. Do I have to learn HTML?
  5. Close your darn tags! Were you born in a barn?

Answer: The </h1> is a close tag, and you don't have to learn HTML to use Dreamweaver, but it's helpful to understand the basics.

Bonus question: What is the first stanza of the pop hit single "Dreamweaver" by Gary Wright? Can you believe, it hit #2 on the charts in 1976?

I've just closed my eyes again

Climbed aboard the dream weaver train

Driver take away my worries of today

And leave tomorrow behind

{Refrain} Ooh, dream weaver I believe you can get me through the night Ooh, dream weaver, I believe we can reach the morning light

Question: Has anyone ever sung that to you in an effort to be ironic and funny when you told them you use Dreamweaver?

Answer: Don't get me started on that now. The quiz is over.
