How can I protect my Web site content?

February 10th, 2010 · No Comments

Dear Janine,

How can I block the copy/paste option when I create a Web page so that nobody can copy pictures from my Web page when it is on the Internet? And is there a possibility to do the same thing to the source code?

If it’s too much theory, than please give me a hint or a link where I can find the specific info.

Thank you again for your time, and have a nice day.

Hi,

I’m afraid there is no way to completely protect your text and images when you put them on a Web site.

One way that some people try to limit the downloading of images is to create their sites in Flash, which does prevent viewers from simply clicking and downloading an image or copying and pasting text, but even then, someone can easily take a screen capture of the page and still get the image in 72 dpi and it’s easy to retype text. One other option is to publish your text and images in PDF format, but that has the same limitations as Flash.

Most people decide it’s worth the risk, in part because even though others can download your images, if you’ve optimized them for the Web at 72 dpi resolution, they are such low quality that there is not a lot someone can do with them.

I hope that helps you decide.

Best regards,
Janine
