First, thank you for your excellent book, Dreamweaver CS4 for Dummies. I am about half way through and it is very good. I would purchase it again, which I think is the ultimate compliment.
I am new to Dreamweaver CS4. I am trying to start and define a new website. Each time I get to the (site/new) Editing files, part 3 page, I get the following error message:
“The root folder you have chosen is inside the folder for site xxxx. This may cause some operations, such as synchronization, to work incorrectly. Proceed anyway?”
I have gone into Explorer and deleted the folder xxxx. This did not help. I went into site/manager and deleted the folder xxxx. This did not help either. It simply gave me the same error message with a different folder from xxxx. I deleted the second folder with site/manage and it gave me the same error message with yet a third folder.
I am at my wit’s end. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I found several instances of this same error by other users on the Internet so I think some of your readers are having the same problem.
Thanks for your help. Keep up the good work.
Jim
Hi Jim,
Thank you for the kind words about my book. You ask a good question and I have seen others have similar problems with the site set-up process.
In your case, I believe the solution will be to change the site set-up for the site that Dreamweaver thinks is already using the folder your folder is inside of. By that I mean you’ve probably already set up a site and entered the root folder in Dreamweaver. This could be any folder, including your main documents folder — all Dreamweaver knows is that the folder is already set up for a site and now you’re trying to set up another site within that folder in a way that could lead to problems when you upload your new site.
The solution is to edit the site information for the site that contains the folder xxx and either delete the site definition in Dreamweaver or change it to another folder. Even if you’ve deleted the actual folder, if Dreamweaver still thinks it’s in use, you’ll run into this conflict.
I hope this helps, but let me know if you continue to have problems. I wish you all the best with your web design,
Janine
