The drop-down submenus only show up on the home index page — why?

Hi Janine,

I think it’s great you are willing to take the time to help people with their questions. I have Dreamweaver CS3 and have gone through both of your training CDs. I learned a lot through them, so thank you very much!

I am redesigning my company’s website. I have a Spry drop-down menu on each of the pages, but the drop-down submenus only show up on the home index page. I checked the codes, and they look identical to me. I have not been able to upload the site (waiting for the access password), so I have included the code that shows at the bottom of each page.

<script type=”text/javascript”>
<!–
var MenuBar1 = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar(“MenuBar1″, {imgRight:
“SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif”}):
//–>
</script>

Do you have any suggestions? I’d really appreciate it. Thank you again for all the help, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a great day!

Kind Regards,
Michelle Gallagher

Hi Michelle,

You need to make sure that every page has all of the necessary code. When you copy and paste menus, they often don’t work. Here are a few suggestions.

Make sure you copy all of the code, including the script that appears in the header area at the top of the HTML code and all of the UL and LI tagged content in the menu itself.

If that still doesn’t work, you can re-create the menu on each page, but that is tedious.

My best advice is to create a template with the menu and then create the rest of the pages in your site from the template. (This works better in CS4 than in CS3 — you can download a free trial version of CS4 from Adobe.com.) If you use a template, every page will have all the code for the menu. And if you ever need to change it, you can edit the template and automatically update the rest of the pages.

If your front page is different from the inside pages, you may choose to create the menu on the front page and then again in the template for the rest of the pages.

You’ll find instructions for working with templates on my site at www.DigitalFamily.com/dreamweaver.

Hope that helps,
Janine
