Hi Janine,
You helped me with my “hair pulling links” email a month or two ago. I swear I have no intentions of barraging you with questions, but I could really use your help.
I recently registered a new domain and want to get people from my old Web site address to my new one. Is there any way to automatically get people to go to my new site when they visit the old address?
Presuming this isn’t a time-intensive question, I would be grateful for the answer or an idea of where to find the answer. I work alone. If only I could just turn around and ask someone.
Best,
Jack
Hi, Jack,
I’m happy to answer your question.
You would need to add this code to the Head area of the page on your old site:
<meta http-equiv=”refresh” content=”5;url=http://example.com/”/>
Note that you would replace the example.com address with the address of the page you want to go on to and that the number 5 represents 5 seconds. You can change the number of seconds by simply changing that number.
I also suggest that you include a brief message explaining that your site has moved, as well as a link that makes it easy for visitors to go to your new site directly if they want to click on it right away.
Hope that helps,
Janine
