I’m looking for e-commerce instruction.

Hi Janine,

Your work with Dreamweaver is impressive, so I wanted to get your opinion on something before I dive into the program. In addition to setting up websites, I’m also specifically looking for e-commerce instruction — CSS forms mostly. Is this covered in your Total Training DVDs for Dreamweaver or in the Dreamweaver for Dummies book?

Thanks for your time,
Pete

Hi Pete,

Thank you for the message. If you want to add eCommerce to your site, you have many options. You can create a custom system by using Dreamweaver, but that is such a complex task and requires such advanced programming knowledge that I don’t cover it in my trainings.

For most people, using an existing shopping solution makes more sense than creating one yourself. I recommend that you create your Web site in Dreamweaver and then link to an eCommerce system, such as one of these:

  • ZenCart.com: For creating a sophisticated shopping cart with many products. This is a complex tool, but it can handle advanced eCommerce tasks.
  • Google’s Merchant Services: Offers a range of eCommerce options for small to large businesses at checkout.google.com.
  • Yahoo’s Merchant Services: Also offers a range of options smallbusiness.yahoo.com/eCommerce.
  • PayPal: Offers a one-click option and back-end processing.

You can still create the rest of the pages of your Web site in Dreamweaver, and I have many training materials, books, and videos that can help you get started at www.DigitalFamily.com.

Hope that helps you find the best solution for your site.

Janine
