How can I create a link to a specific heading on a page?

Janine,

Can you tell me how to create a link to a specific heading on a page? For example, I am doing a page for a real estate agent. I would like to set it up so that a person can click on an address on the residential page and it will take them directly to the house they want to see on the listings page without making them scroll through all the other listings to find the one they want.

Thank you for your help,
Carol

Hi Carol,

You can create links to specific parts of a page by using jump links. This involves placing an anchor where you want the link to open within a page (insert the anchor by using the Anchor icon from the Common Insert menu) and then creating a link that goes to that specific anchor from the page where you create the link.

For example, if you have a page called listings.html with three headings on that page, you could add anchors such as listing1, listing2, listing3 next to the three headings and then create links to the listings: .html#listing1, listings.html#listing2, listings.html#listing3.

You’ll find some additional instructions in Dreamweaver’s help files and I cover this process in detail in all of my Dreamweaver books and videos.

Hope that helps,
Janine

Thank you, Janine — I had looked at jump links but didn’t understand how to get them to specific headings. The anchor is what I was missing.
