How to add a Favicon image to your web site

Have you ever wondered how some sites add those little custom graphics to the very top of the browser in the address bar next to the URL? Google adds a capital G, Adobe adds their logo, and you can add any image to your site, too. You just have to get it in the right format.

FaviconsFavicons look like this little tiny image of a girl with a blue hat that sits in the address bar at the top of my site at DigitalFamily.com.

To get it to work, you need an image in the ico format. You can create an ico image for free by uploading any graphic to  http://www.htmlkit.com/services/favicon/.

Just upload your image and this online Favicon tool automatically converts it into a Favicon ico you can use on your site. Once the image is saved in the .ico, you save it into your Web site folder, upload the new image to the main root folder of your Web site on your server, and your image will automatically displays in the address bar of most web browsers.
